My 2020 Goals

Do you set goals each year? I certainly do and in this episode I’m going to tell you what they are along with a few tips to help you achieve more of your 2020 goals.

Big Ideas

My Four Main Goal Types [4:00]

When I’m thinking about goals, I’m breaking them down into four main buckets – habit goals, business goals, personal goals and charity goals. As I begin creating these goals, I also get clear on why I want to achieve them. Oftentimes when you ask the WHY, you really get to the underbelly of why this goal is important to you. It helps you get clarity on why you really want to do this, and whether it’s important and should be a goal, or whether it maybe isn’t important and shouldn’t be a goal. I love setting goals because it helps me become a better husband, a better father, help more people in this world, and bring more joy into my life and the lives of those around me.

Habit Goals [5:44]

My number one habit goal is to make sure that I’m dating my wife. That means that I take Amy on a date at least two times per month, and I’ve got to put things into practice to help make that happen. Amy and I agreed that I’ll organize one date, she’ll organize the other. And that’s a habit I want to make sure is in my life on a regular basis.

Habit goal number two is to practice Swahili 20 minutes a day from January 1st all the way through to the end of July. This year, we’re taking a lot of our top donors over to Kenya to go and visit all of the schools that we built for our charity. I love playing with the kids in Kenya, and I want to be able to speak Swahili to interact with them. This is one of those habit goals that I know I’ve got to stick to and continuously learn and nurture.

Business Goals [7:30]

My first business goal this year is to do a $10 million launch for TRIBE. It’s become important for me because what we teach in TRIBE and how we help people add recurring revenue to their business really works, and there’s nothing more fulfilling for me on the business side than watching people implement TRIBE and get results.

My second business goal is to get 10,000 paying members for Searchie. This is important not only to us as a business but also to the people that we serve. Searchie makes it easier for us as a team to be able to manage video and audio content, and it makes it easier for our audience to consume that content.

And my last business goal is to grow and close my Impact Mastermind. There’s two more slots available that I’m going to open up, and then I’m going to close it at 32 people. My Impact Mastermind is a group of high-level six and seven figure membership site owners, and I’ve really grown close to this group. The reason I don’t want to grow it beyond 32 is because I feel like it loses the intimacy that has really made this group what it is.

Personal Goals [10:33]

There’s a big birthday milestone for me this year, I’m turning 40. So one of the things I wanted to do was continue to stay in great shape. I’ve always been very active but I wanted to challenge myself this year. So, both my wife and I signed up for this endurance/physical challenge called the Everest Incline. You climb up this mountain in Vermont 17 times within 36 hours, and by doing that you’ll have climbed an equivalent of the mountain Everest. It’s a tremendous physical, mental, psychological challenge, and one of my personal goals is to train for and complete the Everest Incline in October.

My next personal goal is to take four unplugged one week trips. Two with Amy and the kids, one with just Amy and one as a guys trip. I have them sectioned off throughout the year, one per quarter, and I made these a priority. As a driven entrepreneur, sometimes it’s hard for me to unplug, my mind is always racing. But I know the benefit of unplugging and letting my mind simmer and settle.

Charity Goals [13:00]

Last year we raised over $1.5 million for our charity Village Impact. I can’t even begin to tell you all the good that it’s going to do over in Kenya. This year, I want to continue and keep that momentum going, so one of my charity goals is to raise $2 million this year.

Another charity goal is to raise $250k for local charities. Our company contributes a lot of money to different charitable organisations, and I want to continue to do that.

How To Accomplish Your Goals [14:49]

It’s never enough to just set the goals, you need to ask yourself a couple of other questions. Number one is why are these goals important to you? And if it doesn’t totally resonate then maybe question the goal itself. The reason I know my goals are relevant for me is because I know the WHY is in alignment with who I am and what I want to achieve in this world.

Next, I want you to focus and ask yourself what is the number one thing that will make achieving that goal easy or effortless? Once you get clear on what that number one thing is, then you can really focus on what is important in achieving this goal.

Quick little bonus tip… Take your goals and create an image that becomes your phone screensaver. If I click on my phone, all my goals are there in front of me, so I see them every single day. It’s a quick little hack that keeps your goals in front of you and keeps you focused on what is important.
